Mission Statement
The mission of the Bessemer Area Schools Guidance Program is to partner with parents, community, faculty and staff to provide a comprehensive, developmental counseling program addressing the academic, career, and personal/social development of all students helping them prepare to be productive members of society.
What are my credentials ?
Students may be referred to the counselor by parents, teachers, administrators, peers, or they may self-refer.
Are students required to participate in the program?
No student is required to participate in any guidance and counseling program to which the parents of that student object. Parents may choose to limit participation in any or all guidance and counseling services at any time by sending a letter to the school.

What are my credentials ?
- Master's degree from Northern Michigan University in school counseling.
- 20 years of successful full-time teaching and 7 years of work experience in guidance and counseling.
- Licensed by the Michigan Department of Education.

- Helps students resolve problems which interfere with learning.
- Facilitates educational and career planning.
Career Pathways What are career pathways? Career pathways are broad groupings of careers that share similar characteristics and employment requirements. Almost all occupations fall into one or more of the career pathways. Workers within a career pathway often share many common interests, strengths and competencies.
The pathways are:- arts and communication
- business, management, marketing and technology
- engineering manufacturing and industrial technology
- health sciences
- human services
- natural resources and agri-science.
Understanding career pathways allows students to see greater relevance between their selected classes and their future careers. These connections result in improved student achievement and greater student interest.
Career pathways allow students to realistically prepare for promising careers based on their personal strengths, abilities and interests.They provide a system that creates well-marked "paths" of sequenced courses, and provide both focus and direction to a student's learning experience. - Increases knowledge of self and others.

- Offers crisis intervention and prevention.
- Facilitates a home/school partnership in fostering school success.
- Provides support for parents regarding their child/s educational development.
- Protects the privacy of information shared by parents and students
- Coordinates school/community services regarding specific needs of students.

- Maintain communication with teachers, counselors, and other school personnel.
